Day 0-1

Our journey commences on the outskirts of Reykjavik where the city gives way to the moss covered lava fields. We gather for a welcome dinner allowing the perfect opportunity to bond with fellow crews.

The following morning we begin, with spirits high we follow the road Eastward, the skyline transforming as we drive. Today is about discovering the land where the Earth is still being born.

Day 2-3

As our journey continues the skyline is dominated by Hvannadalshnúkur, the highest peak in Iceland. Standing at 2,110 meters, this pyramidal peak sits atop the notorious Öræfajökull volcano. This glacial giant marks the entry in the wilder, more remote reaches of the Southeast.

No journey East is complete without a stop at the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon where ancient icebergs, some over 1000 years olds detach from the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier float towards the sea. These sculptures wash up on the Diamond Beach opposite where icebergs glisten like gemstones on the black sands.

Day 4-5

The next section of route is one of the most scenic drives in the world characterised by narrow roads hugging the shoreline of deep blue fjords. As we reach more mountainous terrain keep your eyes on the slopes, this is the only region of Iceland where wild reindeer roam.

As we descend towards Lake Mývatn we pass Hverir, often called the most alien place in Iceland. Cauldrons of bubbling mud create the Mars like atmosphere. We carry on through the 'Veins of the North' and navigate the trolls pass.

Day 6-7

As we head towards the West of Iceland we pass through Skagafjörður, the historical heart of Icelandic horse breeding. Shaggy maned horses graze against the backdrop of flat topped mountains

We turn into the Snæfellsnes Peninsula where the scenery begins to soften into vast golden sand beaches and ancient moss covered lava fields.

Day 8-9

As we begin our last driving day in Iceland we trace the southern edge of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. If you look closely you can see the skyline of Reykjavik shimmering in the distance across the water. We're not done with the amazing views yet though as we take the scenic route via the Whale Fjord named due to its old whaling stations.

Our final destination appears as a plume of white steam rising from the black desert. The ultimate reward for our many miles on the road is the hot water of the Blue Lagoon where we can relax and relive our favourite moments of the tour.
